Well Cat I guess we can blame the fact that you are quitting smoking cos my
brain is a bit like yours seems to be too.
Mush brain Steve calls it - think he’s right
Think you put Pat instead of Indi cos the post you are referring to was from
me - hee hee.
The management technique that is soooo simple works on the premise that the
brain is divided into 3 - the conscious, the subconsious and the creative
subconcious. It sounds very much like the ABC’s that Steve is trying to help
us with.
Based on the fact that our self talk affects the choices/decisions we make
about things which keep us in our comfort zone. So when we feel
uncomfortable for whatever reason our self talk tells us to reach for a cig -
this will fix it.

This is about the sub-conscious keeping the conscious in the comfort zone.
Its all about learned behaviour - our conscious brain looks at something and
says - what’s this, have I seen it before, is it good for me, what do I do
with it and all that jazz then our creative subconscious gives the answers to
our subconscious because our creative subconsious has been programmed to know
what works and what we should do.
Obviously this all happens in a flash and on automatic pilot about things
that are familiar - if something is unfamiliar we have to think harder and
concentrate more.
So the theory is that words, trigger pictures which trigger feelings - so we
tell ourselves something, then get the picture then create the feeling then
we do it.
So on this premise if we write out a positive affirmation (about whatever)
read the affirmation and get a picture of how things will be then create a
good feeling about that picture - eventually the creative subconcious will
cause the subconscious to react in the way you want it to react cos the brain
can’t differentiate between reality and imagination.
It seems that all famous sports people use this technique so they imagine
themselves winning etc. Its called the Lou Tice Programme.
Nice to talk to you the other day Cat - just a shame we couldn’t hook up on
ICQ but Pam and I got in the chat room last night so maybe if you are online
at the same time again we can give that a go.
Keep on quitting
Indi
