Oops (Its okay) - Lynne

Hi Lynne
Sorry to hear things went from bad to worse, been thinking and maybe you
should totally reassess yourself. It seems to be that you are doing the same
thing over and over and of course you are gonna get the same results.
You keep setting your quit date, then you give in then you feel bad about
yourself and round and round it goes.
So what about this - set a preparation date - lets say Sunday (just as an
example).
Before the preparation date think about this.
You are free to smoke any time you want - no one can stop you smoking, so
long as you are capable of getting your cigs then other than being locked up
you are the one who decides whether or not you smoke.
Ok that is number one - you have the freedom to choose.
You have decided you want to quit - write a list of the benefits to you of
quitting - the benefits need to be what you feel/think (not what someone else

says the benefits will be).
You know from past experience that you cannot just smoke one - cos one always
leads to another to eventually going back to a pack or two a day (depending
on how many you smoke anyway).
So what have we got so far, - we’ve got you with a desire to smoke, if you
satisfy that desire (as you always have done) by smoking then you are
choosing to remain a smoker.
If however - you satisfy that desire by accepting that you have the desire to
smoke (for a nic fix or cos its something you have always done, whatever) and
that by accepting the desire and not satisfying it by smoking will be
uncomfortable but you will have many benefits then you are choosing not to
smoke (just for that moment, cos next time you have the desire to smoke you
have another choice to make.
Does that make sense????
So what I am saying is that everytime you have the desire to smoke or an urge
to smoke you have a choice to make, you can choose to satisfy the desire (as
you always have) and be a smoker or you can choose not to satisfy the desire
(as you always have) by thinking about what it is your body really wants or
riding it out or doing something different and be a non-smoker.
So for 5 days from your preparation date every time you want to smoke just
say this
I have the desire to smoke
I have the freedom to smoke
One puff and I’ll be smoking
Then Either:
I choose to smoke (and continue being a smoker) OR
For now choose to accept my desire to smoke in order to gain the benefits of
not smoking.
So you say this to yourself everytime you want to smoke (don’t worry about
how much or little you smoke) for 5 days then on day 6 you quit using another
outline I will send you if you are interested/
During these 5 days make yourself some lists as suggested by Steve, make some
abc’s, get your toolbox equipped and maybe you will have a better chance.
Just my thoughts Lynne - hit delete if it doesn’t appeal to you.

    Hi Indi
Thanks so much for your thoughts, and they do make sense. I feel
like my mind says one thing and my body says another.
Which is what you have all gone through, I have to get my mind to
take over my body…. and it is hard to do.
    Thanks again
    Lynne
