Holiday plans
Hi Cat!
You have some great holiday ideas! It is a really busy and
stressfull time. It’s crazy that it turns out that way when it is
supposed to be such a joyful time!
I to have eliminated many of the have to do things on my holiday list
over the years and try to focus on making people the tradition rather
than tasks and material things. It is really hard in our culture to
do that but I try to balance out how much time I have each year with
what I plan to do and it does help. Once I let go of thinking that
the holiday wouldn’t be the same without homemade cranberry sauce,
pies, etc etc then I found all kinds of new ways to celebrate! My
favorite year was when we rented a cabin for three days just outside
of Rocky Mountain National Park. I had ordered a pre-cooked
Christmas dinner from the local grocery store. We took a small
artificial tree, our presents and some board games and headed off for
three days. It was terrific! No phones, no TV or radio! We watched
a bull elk graze outside our window everynight! The lodge had
activities for family and children such as a yule log hunt, caroling
and making ornaments. They even had a Santa that delivered your
child’s packages on Christmas eve and it was free!!!! I think that
will always be my very favorite Christmas. It was so peaceful and we
really enjoyed one another. Time just doesn’t allow that all the
time so I try to capture some of that feeling every year. Of course,
that doesn’t mean, that’s everyones idea of a great Christmas
either! It doesn’t work to tell my early teen that we are going to
go out to the middle of nowhere and play boardgames and watch the
snow fall—lol! She might go for a snowboarding trip next year
though! I guess I just need to stay flexible and creative! Boy did I
get off the subject! However, the real point is that I have been
having some “bad” days as well and your post made me realize that I
have not addressed how we will do this Christmas and need to do
something about that now or the stress will just escalate! Thanks for
the reminder!!! Terry
