Need Advice
Help! I’m thinking of going back on NRT to try to control my depression
until some kind of medication begins to work. I have been nicotine free for
about 6 weeks and hate the idea of “giving in” to it again. I have to do
something though. Is it possible to need emergency medical treatment for
being unable to stop crying? I cried non-stop this morning for about three
hours. Made myself horribly sick from it. If I don’t completely go over the
edge, my family will from having to live with me.

Hi Char,
I’ve never heard of crying being terminal. But the reasons for the
crying can be serious. Normally I’d advise strongly against become
readdicted to nicotine. Call your Dr tomorrow first thing, and see how
quickly you can get in to see her/him. Then see what they recommend as an
immediate step toward relief. If they can’t see you right away, then maybe
NRT (what form did you have in mind?) might be the best option.

Hi Char - I hope you can get a doctor’s appointment tomorrow, and
get some help and relief. Depression is overwhelming, and it feels
like being in a long dark tunnel. The only time I have been
seriously depressed was in the months following my mum’s death, 5
yrs ago. I was treated with a combination of meds and counselling -
talking to someone outside the family and my immediate circle of
friends was a godsend. I didn’t feel I ‘had’ to be anything that
was expected of me by those around me.
Keep us posted,

OK, I have an appointment for 4:30 this afternoon. I don’t know how
sympathetic the doctor will be but the nurse was great. She insisted
I had to see the doc today and said that if I started to feel really
bad I should call her immediately.
Now some good news. My husband made reservations for a trip to London
the week after Christmas. Yay!! I am actually excited about it and I
haven’t felt that way about anything in weeks.
Thanks for all your concern and I will keep you posted.
