Day 2 - reporting in to base camp

Hi everyone
Day 2’s gone well - I’m still feeling spacey, but in a way it’s not
too bad - everything seems to ‘roll off’ me. That’s me focussing on
the positives of the situation! I went to bed early last night,
tired out, woke up a few hours later and had a quick natter to Indi
on ICQ, went back to sleep, and work early. Have to admit, my first
thought was having that first cig of the day, but did yesterdays
exercise i.e. warming up the computer while I made a drink, then sat
reading the posts while I drank that cuppa (hmmm, i enjoy tea on its
own as well). Loads to read too, and I loved the post from Gail.
Colin laughed his head off - he empathised with Steve alright.
Again, that ciggy-urge moved past me, so I reckon this routine is
going to be a good one for me.
Anyway, I got myself moving after that - usual pattern of lounging
about has been replaced with a new routine of getting the dishes

washed, tidying up, and going out to pick up some food shopping.
the cafe in the supermarket is ‘no smoking’ anyway, so that wasn’t
an issue for me.
Non-smoking visitors this afternoon, and I was never comfy smoking
infront of them anyway - always felt awkward - so again I didn’t
think about cigs really.
I feel a bit ‘antsy’ now though, not sure what to do with myself.
No ccoking tonight, we’re having a chinese takeaway, so in
missing ’something’ I’m sitting here tapping away on the keyboard
instead. I did my first ABC, and also got going on another list
Steve suggested I start on. Love doing lists - they help me lots,
and I did ok with the last one too.
I’m feeling good, pretty excited about this quit. Day 3 tomorrow -
who’d have believed it. My kids are stunned into silence ;) Later,
Katie

You should be damn proud of yourself! I’ve realized how those damn
butts control my every emotion and action. Who am I without them?
I’ll have to wait and find out. The waiting is tough though. Tried
to sleep off my mid-morning urges, didn’t work (cramps, yuck!). I’m
pretty crabby but am going to ride this thing through!!!!!
13 hours, 52 minutes and 58 seconds. 11 cigarettes not smoked, saving
    $1.73. Life saved: 55 minutes.

    Gail - you’re so right
Steve said to me the other day that this was going to be a life-
changing experience. I think we’re about to find out just what that
means. We can work through this!!

We don’t become radically different ppl. But small things will change.
We’ll take less ‘breaks for a cig’ while working on a chore, it’ll seem
there will be hrs in the day. We’ll be less inclined to ‘aviod’ most
issues. Our smoking habit was a momentary ‘turning of our attention’ from
what was in front of us. That will change to ‘turning toward’ what’s
happening. Where so much of our living through a typical day was automatic,
now we’ll not only be aware of that living but we be actively involved in
    the direction of our day.
