My Weekend with my Daughters
Hi All
Well I survived my first ever weekend away with my two daughters -
just the three of us.
We did a lot of laughing and did all the touristy things that you do
in Shakespear Country even down to going to see a Play at the Royal
Shakespear Theatre - Alice in Wonderland, it was so cleverly done.
The Sunday was Mothering Sunday so we met up with my eldest son and
his new SO for lunch which was really nice. This boy hasn’t seen his
sisters in over 4 years so there was some bridges built:)
The thing that amazed me about the weekend was actively thinking
about what smokers have to endure.
One of my daughter’s smokes, she is 38 and other than the
occasional ’spliff’ she never smoked and hated smoking until 4 years
ago when her 17 year relationship broke up - she figured out that
smoking would help her cope!!!!!!!
This is the first time since I quit that I have been so close for
such a long space of time with someone who still ‘needs to smoke’.
Because we were all sharing a bedroom we had a ‘non-smoking’ room and
there was no smoking in the lounge or dining room of the B&B so it
meant she couldn’t get her nic fix first thing in the morning or last
thing at night without going outside.
It was really painful to watch her embarrasement in restaurants when
she lit up. It was extremely windy and she smokes ‘roll ups’ so they
were very difficult to light up outside.
When we were in the theatre which was non smoking she had to do
without her fix for 3 hours and she was so eager to get out at the
end of the play. Only to find that she had dropped her lighter out
of her pocket.
So she couldn’t light up - now unlike me she wouldn’t go and ask a
stranger for a light so she had to ’suffer’ until we got back to the
B& B until she could get another lighter.
Everytime she lit up I was just so grateful that I had found cog quit
and that I didn’t have to do it.
My son’s SO quit a month before me and he is very anti-smoking. He
was horrified to find out that his big sister had taken up the habit -
on the way home he told me that he never thought I would quit and
never thougth that his sister would start.
Maybe one day I can introduce her to cog quit when she tells me she
is ready or wants to quit - who knows but at least I am leading by
example.
Nice to be back again.
Namaste
