More to the newbies/zyban

Saturday, July 31st, 2004

Several here have used Zyban with no ill effect: in my case I felt so
spaced out and super-tired I had to stop taking it, and I developed a rash
also. As you say Brenda, everyone’s body chemistry is different, therefore
zyban will affect us differently.

Seven, congrats on your quit :) well done! It is great accupuncture worked
for you, I have heard it is quite effective myself.
About the Zyban, ANY medication, including penicilin can kill you. It has
proven itself to be quite helpful to others, and I just wanted to make sure
no one was panicked by that. I am taking Wellbrutrin SR (Zybans big brother)
and it literally saved my life because of depression. I experience zero side
effects, or none that I notice. On other similar medications, I did have
side effects. Everyone’s body chemistry is different, and one just has to be
very aware of their body and note any side effects. I am sorry that you had

Hi everybody!
I just quit smoking last night. (Again) At 7:30 - that is when I
put on my Nictine Patch. (Nicoderm) I will post more later, but just
wanted to introduce myself to the group. I am joining several
groups; I NEED all of the support/info/encouragement that I can get
right now. THANKS.

Learning the Cogquit Method

Friday, July 30th, 2004

It was great hearing from so many newbies today (and two of you on IM
also!!)…
It took me a while to get the connection between cognitive thinking and
quitting the smokes. Since I didn’t get to this site until a few days
after I quit, I was well into fogbrain, but I read the
cognitivequitting.com site all the way through. I was fortunate that I
could print it all off. As a matter of fact, I believe I put the whole
site into a Word document because I had trouble reading the site (the
colors and my eyes didn’t like each other). If anyone would like that
document, let me know and I’ll send it to you.
Anyway, I read through the whole site, then had to go back and read
through some of the chapters again before the connection between
cognitive thinking and quitting came through. It was probably on my
third read about Warren that I started to understand that part of it.
It’s just so simple but I still had trouble with the concept because I’d

More to the newbies/Clarification

Thursday, July 29th, 2004

Hi, all,
Just read my message to the list, and must clarify! This past Saturday was
not dreaded because my husband was coming home after a ten-day work trip! I
was dreading the evening because I knew I’d battle the urge to smoke. Of the
group with whom we usually get together for dinner. The majority smoke, and I
knew it would be a hurdle. And perhaps “dread” is too strong a word to use in
the first place, because the unofficial supper group *is* fun.
Just wanted to clarify!
Thanks, and have a great week.

More to the newbies/Brenda

Tuesday, July 27th, 2004

Hi Brenda
Cat and I were chatting earlier on about our previous attempts at quitting.
I was saying that, over the years, I’d had many attempts - I think the
longest I ever lasted was about 4 or 5 days. Each time it was a grim affair
a real ‘hanging on by the fingernails’ thing. I kept doing the same old
thing every time, and never tried anything different. So I got the same
results every time - running off to buy smokes. I never understood why I
was smoking, never looked beyond the ‘I always smoke when I feel like this’.
This time, I knew I needed to do something different - and found cognitive
quitting. First thing I did was work out just exactly why I was quitting,
and get some Foundation statements in place. I then sat down making some
lists about when and where I smoked, and why I was smoking. How was I
feeling? What physical sensations was I trying to relieve? What else might
help, be more appropriate than a cig?
What can you do to do it differently? How’s about starting with a few lists

More to the newbies

It’d be great to hear how some of the newer quitters are getting
along with their quits (big hint!) So - seven, Harper, diana,
Brenda, Sharon, ebby, Amber and Paulette (to name but a few) - how
are you doing? Need any help? Anything you’d like to share with
us? Whatever’s happening, most of us - if not all of us - have been
there at some point and can relate.
hope to hear from you soon,
take care

Re-grouping

Tuesday, July 27th, 2004

Hi everyone, I just wanted all to know that on my day 13 quit,
several very stressful problems came up all at once, which I could
not handle along with my quit. I had to think and I could not do that
during my quit. With the information I have learned here at CQ, I am
trying to strighten out my major problems, do some ABC’s and get all
the tools I need to resume my quit. I am planing to set a quit date
of July 5 as the forth might be a little stressful. I have found that
for me, I need to get my life as harmonious as is possible and to
control the things I can change to make my quit sucessful. There are
a lot of things I can not change and so I will not worry about them.
Doing your ABC’s before hand is in my opinion really important. I
have been really down by loosing this last quit but I have learned so
much while doing it that the next one will be my last. I can do it
and all of you can do it if you really want to put some work into
your quits. Steve and Pam are angels and you can be sure they will be

Hi seven - glad you’ve joined us. Have you had chance to read up at Steve’s
site www.cognitivequitting.com, and in the Files section on the group’s
page? Tell us a bit about how your quit’s coming along, and ask for any
help you need. Tends to be a bit quiet at weekends, but you’ll hear and
read more during the week, I’m sure.
Pam
me a lot of time in the
all the guilt etc…. i believe that this is the
trick us into smoking again. and yes - smoking in a dream is pure pleasure.
