ok heres a trigger

I read what Pam just sent and she’s right on as usual. Here’s
another thought. Write an ABC about arriving home after going to the
grocery store too (this may work for when you are waiting for your
ride also).
A = Activating Event
I have gone shopping. I’ve arrived home. Time to take a quick break
before putting up the groceries.
B. = Beliefs
B1. A smoke would be good right now. Or would it? In the past,
taking a smoke break would have been the only option, but now I know
that this is not a appropriate option as I have decided in my
foundation statements.
B2. I could reward myself with a special treat, like an ice cream or
candy bar, but that would only make me feel bad later because I’m
trying to avoid falling into the weight gain trap. Maybe a diet cola
over ice in a nice glass (makes it more special) or some low cal
fruit juice for a natural energy boost before tackling the next
chore. I’ll let the kids know that this will be a quiet time for me
and that I would appreciate their help in keeping any interruptions
to a minimum for at least five minutes.
B3. I can put my feet up and watch a little TV or read. This would
help relax me so I’m better prepared to face that next chore. Well,
this may not be appropriate for this break, maybe for another ABC,
because if I get interested in a show or a book, then the groceries
will spoil!
C= Response
Since I will most probably be thirsty anyway, I choose B2, the juice
part; cola if there’s no juice available but I’ll try to remember
while shopping to pick up something kind of different and fun to
drink when I take my break.
This is just off the top of my head and very simple, but I’ve found
that doing ABC’s for even the simple events help. Try to be
proactive; later on those simple ABC’s will help you with the
reactive ABC’s.
Hope this helps.
