[CognitiveQuitSmoking] With trepidation - Spelling, Algebra (N

<George Bernard Shaw (obscure English person) played around with a phonetic
alphabet (or was he <Scottish?).
Actually he was Irish and in 1925 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for
Literature. Shaw accepted the honor but refused the money. One of his 50+
plays included Pygmalion, which became the movie My Fair Lady in 1964,
starring Rex Harrison, Audrey Hepburn. He also coined the phrase,”England
and America are two countries divided by a common language”.
As to spelling or is it pronunciation, lets go crappy fishing. Pronounced
“croppy”, a white perch.
<Then there’s the abcs (crucial actually, but you learn that a bit later)
and you think `ok - I used to have a fag
<at this point but now I am going to take a deep breath’.
ABC’s are crucial! I have been abc-ing my life away these past two months.
I have experienced every emotion in the gambit, and have not been an overall
happy camper. Part of the “be prepared to be physically and emotionally

uncomfortable while I learn to live without cigarettes?”
Then this past weekend, I am making a 45 minute drive with my elderly aunt.
It is her casino outing. Warren says….a cigarette will fix the boredom,
anxiety, and anticipation. For the first time tada……..with out an abc
or any effort…..a voice says, no you don’t want a cigarette, what you want
is to alleviate the discomfort of the moment. I was totally shocked. The
jug broke, my car was flooded with water, but there were no fish.

Unfortunately, ABCs aren’t about feeling better. They’re about thinking
    and responding differently.
It really is a surprise the first time that happens. If it followed
true to form, as that voice said “no you don’t want a cigarette, what you
want is to alleviate the discomfort of the moment”, any feeling of an urge
to smoke would have dissipated instantly. Did it?
    Well done :) Steve

Damn. Ok so he wasn’t obscure, English or Scottish, but it’s true
    about the ghoti :)
