Hi. I have listed below those reasons and effects of smoking which
seemed applicable to me. I’m sure it’s incomplete and I know there’s
a lot more quitting symptoms and urges that are applicable to others
and even to myself (each quit is different!). Anyway, I don’t know
if there’s a sort of deadline for this, so I’m submitting what I
have. Bye now.
Reasons to smoke:
I. Chemical: 1) blood nicotine level drops below “lower set
point”
a. Blood sugar drop
b. Partial synaptic dysfunction
c. Digestive upset
d. Lack of focus, light-headedness
e. Etc.
II. Emotional: 1) Substitute for directly addressing
stressors
a. Anger
b. Sadness/Loneliness
c. Confrontations with others
d. Disappointment
e. Tiredness
Purposeful:
f. Weight Control
g. Separation from others
h. Enjoyment/Supplemental (eg, w/drinking)
Habitual:
While driving
Break time
On Phone
After task completion
