Don’t give up
Doreen,
I have not been here long but my vote is for you to hang out and soak up
some motivation. I found this list after I quit and mostly lurk. But
these messages and people have been motivation for me! Never give up.
As long as you keep trying to quit one of these days….you will. I
don’t know much about the abc’s and those things……I just tried to
quit again 33 days ago and for some reason…….it has stuck. I am
cold turkey….did hypnosis but not sure if that had anything to do with
it. I struggle everyday. Some days are good and some are bad. You
have motivation for your health reasons alone. You can do this….don’t
give up the fight. Check out the cogquit website.

Hi there Penny - glad you’re posting, rather than lurking
You said
Penny - the abc’s really are the key to understanding your smoking
behaviour, and learning how to deal cognitively with those urges to
smoke and achieving a comfortable quit. Motivation and reasons to
quit are important, but using those alone is going to make the quit
harder, and more of a struggle - more of a ‘hanging on’ existence.
Please, read Steve’s ‘homework’ post from a day or two ago, and make
a start on some lists, and come back and post them. And if I can
help you get started on some abc’s, please holler. If you’ve got an
IM, please feel free to add me to your lists (my details are in the
database on the groups’ home page) and message me if you see me
online. And the same offer applies to anyone else needing help to
get started - I’m UK time which is 5 hours ahead of EST, so it can be
difficult during the week to coincide, but there’s often a way around
it with a bit of planning.
