Well I’ve stopped about 4 days ago and what really has helped ease into the
transition has been a couple of things.
First, get on a Zyban program. This will help set your stop date and the stuff
really works.
Second start a daily journal and document how you feel, your thoughts and the
triggers as they become apparent. When I have really documented how and where
I’ve felt a trigger the next time it occurs I recognize it but with out the urge
to act how I used to.
Third, get a bottle of water, mine’s half liter, and drink alot. I fill mine up
about every 30 min. with really cold water.
And what helps the most for me has been reading other posts and writing a
couple also. Sort of reinforces what we are trying to do for ourselves, change a
long term mental habit compounded with the nicotine addiction.

Just a few lines by way of introduction. My name is Karina, and I’ve
been smoking this past 30yrs and am sick of having my life run by
smoking. I’ve tried quitting and always found it a miserable
experience, and am hopeful that this next quit will go better. I met
Steve in a quitsmoking chatroom yesterday and seem to have been taking
a very different look at my smoking today, and have been learning a
lot about what it is that has me running to light up.
I was born, brought up and until very recently lived in Liverpool, and
am now living in the rural depths of Lancashire. One of my worst
times for smoking is the awful commute to work, and this will be my
real test of doing something more constructive than chainsmoking my
way there. My timer is at the ready….
