Day 8
Leslie amd I have made it to day 8. I have wanted a cigarette more than once,
esp. when Mom gets under my skin.
But I do have an urgent queston:
My feet swelled up really bad yesterday and I awoke this morning with
palpitations…actually, it was PSVT. I converted with valsalvas. Is this part
of my body adjusting to no nicotine? My feet actually looked like people after
heart surgery.
I must admit it was the first night I got any decent sleep since I put the grits
down.
Ok, I am a RN, but this is not my area of expertise.

Hi Joni,
Congrats to you and Leslie on your 8 days.
I’ve never heard anything about swollen extremities and quitting. I’d be
on my way to get it checked out ASAP.

Any experience of stress will result in the sort of physical symptoms
that were always associated with lighting up. You may not be able to
predict all the instances when Mon will get under your skin, but you can
develop ‘what ifs’ to deal with the resulting sensations of her under your
skin. I’m guessing that feels like muscle tension in the usual places i.e.
abdomen, shoulders, neck, face and the more rapid breathing. Be ready with
appropriate responses to those sensations. If you can additionally find
some ways to deal directly with Mom, great. Unfortunately, personal
relationships are sometimes an ongoing source of stress and there’s limited
opportunity to effect change.
