Cognitive stuff

Hi Mary,
It’s both. When you change what and how you think about something, you
change your response (behavior). Cognitive quitting is a program to change
the automatic thinking that we applied to much of what we encountered in a
routine day. That old automatic thinking associated a cigarette with the
appropriate response to everything from anger to hunger to fatigue and
phone calls (that list is almost endless). When we begin to actively become
aware (cognitive) of our old thinking patterns, we can change them. And
that, in turn, results in changed behaviors.
cognitive (kogni tiv) adj.

hope this has helped a bit,
Steve
