First day. . . .

As it happened, I had my last cigarette at 10:47am EST on Sunday,
March 23, 2003. It is now 33 hours since my last cigarette. It was
twenty years ago that I last went 33 hours without a cigarette. So
far, plenty of sleep, lot’s of reading. Had cause to make use of one
of my ABCs last night. Went pretty well! Kind of neat. You don’t
have to think about anything. All the thinking has already been
done. You just step into it, in a sense, and everything flows just
like you planned. Pretty awesome!. Also made use of an ABC for when
waking up, which did make adjusting to a waking state a bit easier
for me.
Good luck tomorrow, Wendy. Though, if you’ve got your lists and ABCs
prepared, and stick with them, luck won’t have anything to do with
it! Let us know how it goes.
Until later,
Glenn

    Hi Glenn.
WTG - sounds like your first day is a complete success!
Thanks for the good wishes - I actually have just smoked my last-ever cig. I
    was
even considering making a big deal out of it ….ceremoniously crushing each
    one
left in the pack or flushing them down the toilet one by one or cutting them
    up
with scissors; then I thought no, I’ve spent a lifetime giving smoking too
    much
emotional importance, this is in no way bidding good-bye to a “good buddy” !
So I’ve thrown what’s left of the pack in the trash along with the matches
    and lighter,
slapped on my nicotine patch, washed and put away all the ashtrays, and am
“stepping into it” as you put it so well. I am re-reading my foundation

    statements
and lists and taking it one moment at a time.
    Keep on keeping on!!
    Wendy

Absolutely. Luck has nothing whatsoever to do with a cognitive quit -
it’s an active quit, one which means being prepared to do some work,
and be proactive. It’d be good to see some of your ABC’s Glenn, if
you feel like posting them. It benefits all ppl, especially the
newer quitters like Kate and Ari.
    Ari - you said
Ari - are you doing anything differently this time? Did you follow
up those links I posted, and start work on some Foundation Statements
and lists? Being resolved and determined to quit is a good thing….
but you’ll need some tools to help you really work your quit. Let us
    know if we can help.
    Pam

Hi Pam, actually, I have found a few things that have me grabbing for that
“crutch.” I just recently moved and have some adjustments to make. One of
them is getting my license renewed. I have to take the written test “again.”
40 years of driving and having to take a written test to me is totally off
the wall, but, law is law and I have to learn to be flexible. I did take the
written test and failed by 1 too many ugh! I was upset and very negative
about taking this test….bad move. Also, my license expires on my BD 4/8
which is not too far away. I am also in the process of having my inspection
done, but, cound not as I need to get Insurance in my state. This is a first
and big step for me as I had always depeneded on my spouse to do this. I knew
absolutley nothing about this process. So, I can not drive my car until I get
my insurance, which should be any day. Then I have to drive my car,
uninspected to be inspected, lol…Anyway, what I do notice is when my

tolerance and frustration set in…I automatically reach for that “crutch.”
What I am now trying to do is reach for a glass of water instead….I usually
have a bottle near by. So, that is the start of my ABC’s and know there will
    be alot more ahead…thx, ari
