collection of going away ABC
Hi Pam and Steve,
Pam and Steve when you have some time could you please go over those ABC’s and
check them out. Those are the ABC I will take with me when I am leaving on
Sunday morning. I am very thankfull for any twisting or nagging on them. Beside
my statement those ABC’s will be the only tools I have to take with me. I know
it is a lot but I really appreciate your help on this one as it is realy
important to me to stay of the smokes those three weeks. I am going to miss my
coaches and the group.
I am going as a NONSMOKER and I am planning on coming back as a NONSMOKER
1.. studiying for a test
A ) I have a test the next morning and I am supposed to memorize and
understand some stafff, I am having a hard time concentrating and can’t memorize
anything. I feel jumpy, my head feels heavy, my hands kind of feel shaky and my
mind is wandering. All I can think of is to smoke.
B) I know smoking will put me at ease and I know from previous experience that
after a smoke my brain will function. The jumpy feeling will go away and I will
be able to concentrate
C) I go and smoke
B1) now way I am not going to smoke, I managed to go through so much that I
can handle that too. Nothing is worth it to break this quit. Lest see which
option I have: I have been in class all day, my body did not get any exercise at
all, I should go and work out first until my body feels tiered, this will take
care of the jumpy feeling, hey I can take the books with me and while stretching
or on the bike I can study. Other people do that all the time. I should study
piece by piece (small steps at the time and breaks between it)
C1 I leave the study for some minutes and depence on the time I will go to
the gym or if that is not possible for a short walk and do some breathing
exercise. Once I return to it I will study for 30 minutes and then take a break
again.
2.. ten minutes break between classes
A) we finally have a break (after one or two hours depends if the instructor
is a smoker ) I feel all tense, my shoulder and neck muscles are hurting and my
body feels stiff.
B) a smoke now would be really nice, after sitting in class I deserve a nice
smoke, I will be with the others and joke around while smoking. C) I am having a
smoke
B1) No I don’t smoke any longer, my body is stiff from sitting over an hour
and concentrating. I should do some stretches, and join the nonsmoker group they
can be funny too. Take some deep breath to pump some oxygen in my lungs. If I
feel tiered from sitting down some cold water in my face will help.
C1) I will do stretches, maybe some push ups and use the break to go in the
washroom this way I don’t have to go during class time
B2) have a look at the time, it is hot outside I have been for two hours in
the classroom and haven’t had anything to drink or eat. I think a nice fruit
(where did that apple go I took this morning from the mess?) would help and
have some water.
C2) I take out my apple and eat it while joining the others.
3.. lunch break
A) We had a nice lunch, many people hurry up so they can go for a smoke. I
want to smoke too, I think after being in class for so long I really deserve
one. I feel kind of tiered, my stomach feels full and I feel like doing nothing,
my body feels heavy, my breathing is kind of heavy too.
B) A smoke would do really good and adjust the food too.
C) I go and smoke
B1) I why would I eat faster just to go for a smoke, this is stupid I don’t
even like the taste of it any longer, I should eat slowly and enjoy the food, as
a nonsmoker it tastes so much nicer. I should not eat heavy. Some Salad a nice
fruit juice and lots of fruits should keep me going for the next classes.
C1) I start eating more slow and talk to the others, no rushing we can sit and
relax. since I am in the mess take some fruits for later.
4.. Going out with others to the bar and drink alcohol
A) we are at the bar and having a fun time, we have some beers and I feel all
happy and excited. My body feels light, I feel jumpy heart its going faster, we
are laughing a lot. Everybody around me smokes.
B) I want to smoke too, alcohol always makes me smoking and even more than
usually, c’mon only one it will be really tasty with the beer.
C) I get smokes from someone and smoke and drink
B1 STOP — watch out, it is still early in my quit, Warren has not learned to
deal with alcohol and not smoking. So I better don’t drink much, I just have one
beer and if I feel I am getting a stronger urge to smoke I better stop that beer
too and swoop to orange juice and get some nuts or some kind of snacks to chew
on. Whatever I do don’t get drunk and loose a quit. I know that would be
something I would regret. If I can not stand it I could go out for some minutes.
Keep my statement close to me. Look around, not everyone smokes, so I can have
fun without smoking.
C1 I look around and count all the nonsmokers. I will watch out not to drink
to much, and will have more juice than beer. If I feel a stronge urge and feel
like giving in I guess I will go in the washroom and pull out my statement.
(here I am running out of ideas and creations)
5.. Feeling Home Sick:
A) I feel down, I feel depressed, lonely cause I am away from home, my body
feels heavy, I am close to tears, all my muscles are feeling tense, breathing is
swallow and my chest hurts, I have a hard time to swallow.
B) I want to smoke, I want to smoke so badly it will comfort me and take the
pain away. I will be with the others and forget about home.
C) I am joining the others and go for a smoke.
B1) I will not smoke no matter how I feel. Don’t do poor me it only gets me
more down and makes me to want smoke. It’s not the first time I am away from
home, don’t count the days until I am home, make the days count for me, use the
days I have here and enjoy them, I am home all my life time and it is a nice
break from everything. There is really no reason to smoke. Well and if I don’t
smoke I have some extra money to use and call home to see how they are. Or I can
write a letter, or I just join the non smokers, after all we are a big family
too.
C) I am changing thinking and look at the bright side, I use the extra time to
write a letter home, or call home, or just simply read a book, I just enjoy
being bymyself for a change.
oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh I feel tiered from all the typing and fixing up the
handwritten ABC’s I think I better get a break, take a nice shower and return
later to do the rest.
Thank you
Carmen
