After 30 years of smoking I am going to quit

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Please support me, I feel weak in this journey to quit smoking. I am
going to quit when I run out of cigs, I have 2 cartons left.
Thanks, Diane

Hi new to all of this

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Stopped smoking several times and always went back cause I get
stuck. Whole day i reward myself with a cigarette after a task.
Clean the house, get a cigarette break, off work etc. I’m stuck
again. Stopped Feb 1 and not a happy person. Just can’t seem to get
beyond the physical act of smoking. The cravings really aren’t there
but now my daily routine is all messed up and can’t get with it. I
havn’t read all the posts yet to see the advice out there. This is a
big step for me to join a group, thanks for any advice you can give.

I just wanted to let you all know that I uninstalled ICQ….but I
still want to talk to you!! I just didn’t like all that stuff on my
computer…. ;-) e

An entire clean year

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Hi Steve, Pam, and my fellow former smokers–and those of you still
preparing to join us,
I just wanted to thank Steve and Pam for showing me the way to
cognitively quit smoking on February 9, 2004. It’s amazing to me
that an entire year has passed since that struggle ended.
I’d like to say that it’s all been smooth sailing since I quit
smoking, but that would be a lie…life hasn’t stopped challenging
me just because I no longer rely on nicotine. But that’s one thing
I no longer have to be challenged by, and that’s huge!
As you know, Steve, I also used Quitnet in my effort; in fact, you
and I met there. They keep a record of statistics that I really
enjoy looking at once in a while. I’ve NOT smoked nearly 19,000
cigarettes since quitting! Isn’t that amazing? No wonder we see
those nasty discarded butts EVERYWHERE! I was only one smoker!
Also according to Quitnet, I’ve saved $1953. That’s impressive

Pam or Steve

Hi there Pam
I am not quite sure how to reach you or Steve other then through the list. I
would be interested in taking the course - I need to quit and I want this quit
to be my last.
thanks

Cognitive Quitting has been evolving since early 1996, and the group
CognitiveQuitSmoking was established in October 2001. As a member of
the group, we are hoping you could spare a few minutes to help us
evaluate the effectiveness of the program as it stands today.
Please could you spare a few minutes to complete the following
questionnaire and return to ddsteve@…
When did you join CognitiveQuitSmoking?
Had you quit smoking before you joined the group?
Have you quit smoking since joining the group? If so, how long have
you been quit?
Have you followed the cognitivequitsmoking program?
Do you read the group posts
Regularly (i.e. most days/weekly)
Occasionally (once or twice a month)
Rarely

Some unexpected benefits

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Just wanted to say hello to my friends here…and post some new
found thrills…benefits of being a non-smoker.
1) I can drink 16oz of water at one go, one long cool draw. I used
to be a sipper, probably because my lungs didn’t have the capacity.
2) My hands and feet are warm!!! In my smoking life…they were
almost always cold..
this is VERY exciting…;-)

question….

About a year ago we ran a couple of ‘workshops’ where Pam and I would walk
a small group through the cogquit program …. timers, ABCs etc. We’re
thinking of trying that again if there’s any interest. If you’re new,
newish, or have been here for awhile (regardless of your stage of quit) and
would be interested, post a note here, or email me at
ddsteve@… and we’ll work out some times.
