yourselves, tell us a bit about your previous quit attempts, and ask
any questions you’d like about cogquitting. How many of you are
building up to that ‘jump off’ position for a January 1st quit?
Otherwise I’ll feel compelled to tell you all about my boring Christmas
presents or how I get rid of my unwanted visitors (mice) ……
yours hopefully

hi
my name is susan. my name on the site is susan levy 2003. i decided to
quit on 12/29 even though i had planned on quitting on 1.1.
there was something about not quitting on the expected date that most
people do that appealed to me. i have been smoking for over 40 years
and only quit once before in 1996. the quit lasted 9 months. after
gaining 30 pounds, i ran back to smoking. gaining weight has been a big
fear that has kept me smoking. my new boyfriend hate my smoking and the
doctor just told me that it will probably shorten my life, so i have
been browsing this site for a few weeks and feel i got prepared.
i removed all smoking equipment from my house and car and bought
candles and flowers. i have a lot of chewing gum and found that using a
drinking straw to substitute for a nasty cigarette helps a lot. i read
a lot of the information about why people smoke and i realized a lot of
it for me is severe habit and a lot of the handling of the lighter and
the cigarette, so holding a straw (i cut it in half) and even inhaling
through it helps a lot. i plan to start a 4-5 day a week walking
routine today, but it is so hard for me to get motivated. any
suggestions??
