Catching up with y’all….. I’ve been reading but not posting

It’s a little while since I have posted as I have had the chikungunya
virus for a month and my joints are swollen, specially my fingers so
I have been unable to type. My feet are so big I have gone up 3 shoe
sizes but I am on the mend now and I will be immune for 4 years now I
have had it ! It’s caused by a special type mosquito.
Anyway this morning i received an email from Dave & Ginny who saw one
of my posts on CogQuit and very kindly sent me a congratulations
which touched me quite deeply and I shed a tear or two.
Dave quit 26 years ago and is now 79. So I have a chance to live my
three score years and ten but only if I stay quit as I was in the 1st
stages of emphysema. Thankyou Dave, to think that someone who doesn’t
even know me cares enough to contact me to encourage me in my battle
to quit the cigs.
I don’t even cough now and its only coming up to 6 weeks since I
quit. I feel fit and have started going to the gym twice a week on

the running machine and cycle, just gently at first for 10 minutes at
a time.
My skin has improved and I don’t have that grey look anymore. I feel
all rosy faced and people are noticing how well I look.
I could not have done it any other way than the Cognitive Quit way
and I am very grateful for all the information help and
encouragememnt I am getting from the Group. Quitting is hard but this
way I fully understand all my body cues and am prepared when that
gasp or a thought of a cigarette pops up.
I have been using Steve’s great suggestion to write down some “What
Ifs” where I think about situations that may arise daily, next week
or at a time in the future when I may be tempted to have a cigarette.
This has helped me a lot as I am well prepared for the barbecue or
lunch date, I know what I am going to say and do if a smoking
situation arises.
Thanks Steve that’s a brilliant addition to the Cognitive Quitting
toolbox.
Congrats to all who have started the program, stick with it and you
will find it’s not as hard as it seems once you are going thru the
procedures and I always make a point of reading and writing down the
Foundation Statements often. I check my body cues then stop and take
care of myself in a non-smoking way.
My Quit has been so much more comfortable than I expected !
Love and Hugs to Steve and all in the Group
Chrys
