New person, on Chantix
I started the med 4 days ago, and I do notice that I smoke less. I
have no problem with nausea. But I also know this is my last hope.
I’ve smoked too long and am on my way to serious complications if I
don’t quit and my therapist is the one who told me about it. She has
a patient who is about my age and smoked all her life and took it
and is totally off them and said it was nothing like the patch or
other aids. I’ve bought hypnosis aids, used all the other patches
and whatnot, had my share of side effects, just had some
hypnotherapy and aversion therapy though I like that idea only he
only had one script (darn), so I have to try this. I’ll keep you
posted, but I quit Wednesday and as hard as I know it will still be,
it will be more mental than anything else. So I’m preparing myself
more for that than anything physical. I have books to read and I
paint and have already excluded that from my painting, and computer
using. I hate cigs when I drink water, so I have been drinking diet
soda but that will stop and I have tons of ice water in the freezer.
I only know I have to. And that is about it. I just have to. I’ve
wanted to for years, and have at times, but it never lasted. Not its
really down to having to. I’ll keep you informed. BTW, I live in
Minneapolis and am 54 though got here via NY and Boston and San
Antonio. Long story. Well, off to watch the VIkings. Have a good
day. Pat

Hi Pat,
It’s a very common misconception that once a quitter has eliminated the
nicotine, the rest is ‘mental’. Actually, most of the cigarettes you lit
were cued by physical needs that aren’t even connected to nicotine. What
I’m referring to are the physical needs or discomforts that result from
fatigue, hunger, boredom, anger, etc. They are a part of life and will
always need responses. Till now you used nicotine to dealt with those
physical needs. I hope you’ll consider using the cognitivequitting program
to learn what your own physical needs are and find new effective ways of
taking care of them. Otherwise, you may get to the end of your time on
Chantix and still have a smoking habit generating urges to smoke.
Good luck. Hope you’ll let us know how you’re doing.
