I’m so glad I found this group

Hi, I’m Maureen, and I am trying to quit smoking and just a couple of
days ago found this group. Well, what a great help this is going to
be. I’m in between jobs and very low on funds….duh…..and that’s
when it hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s a ridiculous and sad waste
of my limited resources. I KNOW I am completely addicted, and am
wondering about the patch. Any help or advice? Since I’m between
jobs, maybe I should just lock myself in the bathroon and withdraw.
The last time I quit smoking like that, my main symptom was severe
nausea and almost cold sweats. Maybe if I suffered through that for a
few days it would be better? Oh, I don’t know. I know I sound like a
total ditz. Anyway, thanks to everyone who has posted and I look
forward to getting over this nightmare. Thanks very much, Maureen

    Hi Maureen,
    Welcome to the group.
How long were you a smoker, how many years? Have you tried quitting
many times in the past (I cant’ remember all my attempts)?
My take on the patch, or any other nicotine replacement/substitution
system, is that it may help reduce severity of the initial physical
withdrawal. But having said that, most of us have found that quitting
has more to do our responses to things like hunger, anger, boredom,
and fatigue. What do you think?
Hope to hear from you soon. Glad to have you with us,
    Steve
