So far

August 18th, 2007

Still holding at 6 cigs a day from 10.
I noticed something today. 1/2 of a cig is more than enough for me when I
do smoke.
So, I just smoked the half last time I smoked and will keep the time span
increasing as I have been trying to do.

Triggers and Habits

August 18th, 2007

My Habits and triggers:
1. When I talk on the phone, I want to smoke.
***2. When I have eaten, I want to smoke.
***3. When stressed, I want to smoke.
4. When bored, I want to smoke.
5. When I go for a walk, I want to smoke.
***6. When I first get up, I reach for a smoke.
7. When I am ready to go to bed, I want to smoke.
Eliminating #1:
The one good thing I have done is since my husband is a cardiac, I do not
smoke inside like I used to. So, if I am on the phone, if I do not take the
phone outside to smoke, I will not smoke.
***Eliminating #2:
This has been hard for me. I have put the smoking further and further from
when I finish eating to try to break this habit. Having some luck, but not

Hey all

August 18th, 2007

Just checking in to let you all know I am still quit after two months
and doing well. I have used some of your techniques and some of my own.
Mostly I have used my intense desire to quit.
Hope everyone else is doing well.
By the way my urges are mostly gone. I find them interesting when I do
have them. Kind of odd really, they are so few and far between that
they amuse me now. So far as soon as I recognize i am having one, it
goes away.
Talk to you all later.

Quit Smoking

August 17th, 2007

Hello I thought I should introduce myself. My name is Chrissy, I am a
22 year old mommy of 2, Kathryn is 16 Months, and Dylan is 4 months.
I quit smoking on March 10th 2007. So it is fairly new to me. I have
tried quitting several times before, but have never made it this far.
I did this for my kids. My husband Jonathan also quit with me. So
far we are doing ok… Neither one of us has killed the other….I
have called 1-800-quit-now and have recieved their booklet. I
figured I also need an online support group as well….If you all will
have me :)

I’m so glad I found this group

August 16th, 2007

Hi, I’m Maureen, and I am trying to quit smoking and just a couple of
days ago found this group. Well, what a great help this is going to
be. I’m in between jobs and very low on funds….duh…..and that’s
when it hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s a ridiculous and sad waste
of my limited resources. I KNOW I am completely addicted, and am
wondering about the patch. Any help or advice? Since I’m between
jobs, maybe I should just lock myself in the bathroon and withdraw.
The last time I quit smoking like that, my main symptom was severe
nausea and almost cold sweats. Maybe if I suffered through that for a
few days it would be better? Oh, I don’t know. I know I sound like a
total ditz. Anyway, thanks to everyone who has posted and I look
forward to getting over this nightmare. Thanks very much, Maureen

Hopefully For the Last Time

August 15th, 2007

This will be my third attempt to quit using this method. I do understand it,
and it worked for me for a month, and I don’t know why I went back after 30
days. I’m a light smoker, but I want to cut my chances for getting lung cancer
or some smoking-related disease. What ARE the decreases in illness as one is
quit longer and longer?
If anyone has helpful information like this and could post it by email or link,
that would be great.
Steve, I’m back for a third try on March 1. I’m going to Italy at the end of
April and don’t want to be thinking about smoking, or stopping to smoke, or
carrying or buying smokes.
Good luck to me!
Diane

Just another day….

August 15th, 2007

When I first met Steve back in 2000, he had been quit for around 4.5
years. I thought that was amazing. I couldn’t for the life of me
understand why he wasn’t excited about it, each time he reached a big
milestone of yet another year quit. I recall he said that ok, it was
an achievement, but that it really was ‘just another day’.
And now I find myself in a similar place, 6 yrs and a few days quit
later - and my 6 year quit anniversary was ‘just another day’. I
understand now (and for a very long time, in fact) what he said to me
all those years ago. Thats where a cogquit is different - there’s no
desperate need to ‘hang on’ and watch quitmeters tick over until you
can say ‘phew, I made it !!’ Not smoking simply becomes a new way of
life.
I’d like to shout a ‘woo hoo !!’ or two - not for 2190′ish days and
goodness knows how many days, hours, minutes and seconds quit, but
for having been shown by Steve how to quit cognitively and

Hi I’m new and need your help

August 14th, 2007

Hi,
I have been a smoker for 30 years. My parents never smoked and I hid
it from them for many years, or at least I thought I did.
I really want to quit! Over the course of the past year I have
said “this will be my last carton”. But when it seems that the more
I want to quit, the more I smoke. In fact I have now become a chain
smoker. I just don’t understand why.
My sons have always nagged me about quitting and they constantly
complain about how our home smells of smoke. They are in sports and
have been accused by coaches of smoking because sometimes their
clothes smell of smoke. Even though I am embarassed by this, I still
continue to smoke and make excuses.
Two years ago I had pneumonia and was hospitalized for a week. No
Smoking! My chest x-rays dumbfounded the doctor and me. My heart
and lungs were in great shape. They even did them twice to confirm.
